Our Mission

WE ARE A GRASSROOTS ORGANIZATION FORMED TO ANSWER PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA’S CALL FOR “A NEW SPIRIT OF PATRIOTISM” THROUGH SUPPORT OF HIS NATIONAL LEGISLATIVE AGENDA, INVOLVEMENT IN LOCAL POLITICS, AND COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY SERVICE.

BACKGROUND

WNC for Change grew out of the increasing enthusiasm for change among citizens of Buncombe County and Western North Carolina. The group volunteered its energy with extensive canvassing and phonebanking in South Carolina and other subsequent states’ primaries. It then provided an organized foundation of volunteers and support to Barack Obama’s Campaign for Change throughout the 2008 presidential election. In order to raise funds to support the campaign in North Carolina, we registered our organization with the Federal Election Commission as a non-connected political committee. This designation insures that we adhere to all federal and state campaign financing regulations.

“A NEW SPIRIT OF PATRIOTISM”

Our motto expresses our belief that what began prior to the 2008 presidential election must be continued; that victory alone is not the change we seek but only the opportunity for us to make that change. “A New Spirit of Patriotism” calls us to an advocacy for our vision of what America can be and to a commitment to work harder not only for ourselves but each other. We work for a new era of American politics guided by: (a) principle and conviction, not cynicism and calculation; (b) straight talk, what we need to hear, not what we want to hear; (c) decisions based on evidence, not ideology; and, (d) concrete strategies for combating Washington corruption and passing real campaign finance legislation…lobbyists will no longer set the agenda.

PURPOSE

WNC for Change is organized to encourage civic involvement in pursuit of President Barack Obama’s political agenda through: (a) support for his legislative programs at the federal level; (b) support for local candidates who support his agenda in North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District; and, (c) service in response to on-going community needs. WNC for Change is a membership organization open to all voters who believe in our mission. We welcome those willing to work hard to achieve President Barack Obama’s agenda at the national, state and local levels.
