REMOTE AREA MEDICAL (RAM)
The organization, founded by Stan Brock in 1985, provides free health care, dental care, eye care, veterinary services and technical and educational assistance to people in remote areas of the U.S. and the world.

WNC for Change members, husband and wife team, Tom & Sarah Sullivan are spearheading a campaign to pass legislation in NC to allow out-of-state licensed medical professionals to practice in NC on a volunteer basis. One of the main reasons RAM has not held an “expendition” in NC is the need for more volunteer medical professionals. By allowing out-of-state professionals to provide care as a volunteer in NC, RAM can hold an “expedition” with enough doctors, optometrists, nurses, PAs, and veterinarians to meet the demand. A typical weekend “expedition” will see a thousand patients. Rural western NC is in need of an “expedition.” Our goal is to create grassroots support before May 2010 when the NC Legislature convenes for their next session. We have the support of Rep Susan Fisher, right here from Buncombe Co., and Sen Phil Berger from Guilford Co.
